Google Analytics:  How To Fix Invite Problems

If you manage large Google Analytics accounts you might have encountered problems with the Access Manager facility this week.

We have a Google Analytics account with a large number of user accounts invited and we have seen a problem with the suggested fix by Google to avoid limits within your account. Previously you would create a new account within you Analytics account and create a new profile for each client. This was limited to 50 accounts and caused a headache for many marketing agencies.

The Original Account Limit Fix

The fix for this was to create a new Google account for each client, and to then invite your master account as admin to enable control & management from a primary source. This week this suddenly stopped working.

What Was The Problem?

It turns out that I was not the only person encountering this problem and after some investigation it appears as if Google has implemented a case sensitive check when inviting – without informing anyone.

If you are experiencing this problem, follow the suggestions below:

  • Go to Google.com and use the Sign In function. Once signed in, look at the email address used and its specific case sensitivity in the top right of your browser. e.g. Mediaworks is different to mediaworks.
  • If you are using a Gmail account, ensure you are using either @gmail or @googlemail dependent on your when your email address was created (a previous annoyance we have encountered).

It appears as if this is only affecting new invites so there should be no need to re-add previous accounts.

As to why it is happening – you will have to ask Google that one.
