Google's UK SERPS Are Still Showing US Websites (and football clubs offering house cleaning)
It seems as if the recent problems with UK search engine results pages (SERP’s) being populated with American listings are continuing. A website setup to document these problems, UK SERP, is currently documenting problems that it has found in the UK SERPs and makes rather interesting reading. As we are geeks at heart and follow the news in the search industry we were surprised to find a result a little closer to home.
Newcastle Maid Cleaning
When doing a search for “Newcastle Maid Cleaning” in Google.co.uk we were shocked to find that two search results show up for American websites (as shown in the image on the right). By searching in the relevant Google TLD for the country you are searching from one would expect to be shown only results relevant for that country i.e. United Kingdom and not several non-UK based websites – one of which actually has USA in the domain name!
There are several Newcastle's that we are aware off throughout the World (and even a second one in the UK - Newcastle-under-Lyme) but for Google to show results for a cleaning service in Newcastle, USA is extremely unhelpful.
Considering Google want to clean up the SERP's by showing users relevant, on-topic results to their users to ensure the best search experience possible we find it hard to believe that they are not adhering to their own mantra
This is a long standing problem that several SEO’s and users alike are getting sick of and are wanting Google to fix. We really hope this happens sooner rather than later.

It also appears as if the people at Google Maps team have something to address also – apparently Newcastle United Football Club offer Newcastle Maid Cleaning also – at least according to Google Maps.
This is also something that is the gripe of a few SEO companies out there and, once again, is something that we would like fixing.
Whether this is a rogue listing set up by somebody or Google Maps auto-assingment gone loopy it’s unclear – but the last time I checked they didn’t offer me a discount to clean my house when I bought my season ticket.
