Using SEO to Get Ahead in Business
Things are moving fast in the world of online marketing and North East business needs to keep pace or potentially lose out on revenue to competitors and miss out on nationwide business. Long gone are the days where a few online banners or skyscraper adverts would suffice to drive traffic to your website, a well thought out and executed online marketing campaign and strategy can set you apart from the competition as well as drive huge increases in revenue from your site.
Once upon a time the first port of call when looking to set up business was to hire premises on the high street.
Today one of the first things the vast majority of budding entrepreneurs will start thinking about is a website. If you were to set up a shop front and money was no object, most people would choose to have their window on Northumberland Street, the busiest street in town, not hidden on a side street! The same principle applies when setting up your online shop. Search engines are the 'Northumberland Street' of the internet.
The most predominant search engines used on the internet are Google, Yahoo and Bing (90% Google though). It is hard to ignore (whether you agree with them or not) the power these search engines have. If you do ignore the potential then you run the risk of going unnoticed in a crowded market place. If you do not have high search engine visibility then your competitors are already beating you to your potential customers.
SEO or, Search Engine Optimisation to give it its full name, is fast becoming the most important consideration of many companies online marketing strategy as it is totally measurable and has proven demonstrable results. Unlike many traditional forms of marketing, the real difference with SEO is that your potential customers have usually already made the decision to buy and are actively searching out a supplier or service provider, giving you the perfect captive audience to engage with. Mediaworks have unrivalled expertise in SEO and below is a list of some of the very basic SEO techniques which could help improve your rankings.
The number one failing when we look at websites carrying out one of our free audits, is that the company have told the search engines who they are. The fundamental principle behind SEO is to tell the search engines what you do; it will always recognise you for who you are.
Make sure the keywords you are optimising for are actually being searched for. It may be very well to say we rank 1st for 'North East Accommodation' when in fact people are searching for 'Hotels in Newcastle'. You are potentially wasting time, and more importantly money on a phrase that will reap very little, if any, benefit to you. It is imperative that extensive keyword research is carried out in the right way to get those visitor numbers up and attract the right type of visitors too.
The pages of your site have to be titled up correctly for instance Title Tags, Meta Descriptions, H1 Headers, Keyword Tags etc... The search engines only read the words to a certain amount of characters, so if you have keywords above this number then these will not be read, wasting another opportunity that could have been realised somewhere else on the site.
The content on your website should be consistent with the titles on the pages. It is also a must that your keyword density is to the optimum amount. Too little and the site is not seen as authoritative enough. Too much and the site is seen as 'spammy' and risks being penalised in the rankings. We carry out extensive keyword research on all your competitors to be sure this doesn't happen.
Regular inbound links to your site are imperative if you are to be successful on your SEO campaign. Not necessarily the number of links, but the quality is the difference between ranking on the first page or not. The search engines analyse in detail each link that is coming in to your site and will quality score these accordingly.
Link Diversity or Diversity of Link Sources. Most SEO providers take short cuts and get multiple links from one root domain (website). This is not as effective as singular links from multiple root domains. We try to get as many singular links from as many unique root domains as possible. This is what sets us apart from all our competitors.
Mediaworks have worked hard and invested extensively in the most up-to-date tools and software to make sure that our clients get the best out of their website and visitors. We are working with the very best names in the North East and have many clients who require SEO at an international level.
