On Wednesday 20th March, one of our SEO Copywriters went back to Northumbria University to present to a group of final year students about ‘How to Get into Digital Marketing’.
Hannah graduated from Northumbria with a degree in Marketing Management in 2011 and was kindly invited back to inspire the marketers of tomorrow and talk to them about what life is really like in the digital industry.
She said: “When I was at University, I had no idea online marketing was so important or was growing so rapidly. So when I was invited to present by Northumbria Careers Service I jumped at the chance because I wish I knew this earlier!
With 71% businesses intending to increase their digital marketing spend in the coming years, it was vital the students knew that if they wanted to enter the marketing profession, their role would most likely be a digital one.
Keeping talent in the region
The aim of the event was to tell students out what a job in marketing will be like, the skills they will need and how to get that first break whatever your degree subject or your skills.
A show of hands confirmed that 3/4 attendees were most interested in the digital sector which was encouraging for the future of the industry and keeping talents in the region.
What the students said:
“I found the presentation and all of your advice really helpful, and I feel like I have a much better understanding of the different opportunities and roles available in digital marketing.”
“Thank you for all of your help, it’s been fantastic to meet someone who is willing to talk about career options in such a friendly way.”
One student who attended Hannah’s presentation was later employed as a full-time member of staff after completing a summer internship at Mediaworks HQ. Read Jack’s story here.
