The Great North Snowdogs project has delighted the North East public and captured the attention of the entire region. Raising money for St Oswald’s Hospice, the event has been a huge success that has witnessed families trekking around Tyne and Wear to hunt down the artistic sculptures.

Thanks to data from the Snowdogs app we helped develop, we can see that over 11,000 people downloaded and used the app. In total there were 175,000 dogs unlocked by explorers, and 11,200 votes cast for their favourite dog. Hundreds of people managed to fully complete the trail too, heading to locations as far as Kielder in Northumberland.

Not only that, but there were over one million unique interactions with the Snowdogs application! That’s proof that the North East public are no strangers to digital participation.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and the trail officially closed on the 20th of November – nine days sooner than originally expected. All 61 of the dogs have been rounded up in order to restore them to tip-top condition ahead of an auction to raise money for the Gosforth-based hospice.

Don’t despair, however, as there’s still time to see each and every one of the beloved dogs by heading down to the Farewell Event held between the 2nd and 4th of December at Gateshead International Stadium – which will feature all of the dogs as well as food stalls, gifts and Snowdog merchandise. Tickets for the Farewell Event are £3 each and all proceeds will go towards the St Oswald’s Hospice charity.

After the final farewell, the Snowdogs will be up for sale at the Grand Auction, held at the Sage Gateshead on Tuesday the 6th of December. Tickets are available on the official Snowdogs site.

This will be an incredible ending to a fantastic 10 week mass participation campaign. Not only has it helped raise a huge amount of money for a local charity, it has also highlighted just how digitally engaged the North East is. Mediaworks is extremely proud to have worked on the app and to have witnessed so many people interacting with it. But ultimately we’re most proud of helping raise money for St Oswald’s Hospice – who do vital work for children and their families in our region.
