Essential SEO Priorities During COVID-19
1. Ensure your targeting and rankings are in place for the eventual rush
It’s a tough time for everyone, but if you can get your SEO in a strong place ahead of this rebound period it will give you a strong upside.
Whether that’s investing in your future content strategy, focusing on products which may see a surge in recovery after the rebound period or whether it’s looking site-wide at elements that have always needed improvement, the time to do it is now.
2. Chase the short term, quick win rankings
Make sure you dominate in the next four to six weeks by identifying Page 2 rankings for key products or services and ensure they are targeted to meet increased demand.
Whether these are stock or services that are experiencing unexpected demand (e.g. Outdoor playsets or DIY equipment), ensure you’re focusing on them right now to push these onto Page 1.
3. Get creative to fit short-term demand
Don’t assume that demand for your service is not there! Be creative and reword/rename your offering to fit short-term demand by grouping them together into a useful hub page and/or category.
4. Push through any delayed technical amends
Implement your delayed technical fixes during your company downtime that can improve organic performance. This could be template changes, functional requirements or indexation issues.
Prepare your website for the recovery period by diverting resource to improve these much-neglected areas that are often limited by budget and/or resource restraints.
5. Ditch key loss-leaders and seasonally affected services
Review your long-term strategies and ensure your key focus targets are identified and optimised ahead of your next seasonal peak.
Many businesses have lost their spring/summer trading period. Start focusing on autumn/winter rankings to be there when the seasonal peak hits. This is especially important for fashion, holiday, and hospitality clients.
