Mediaworks opens its doors to Northumbria University students
Mediaworks HQ welcomed a few fresh faces on January 17th, as it opened its doors to Northumbria University students. Head of Outreach Craig Bradshaw ushered the undergraduates into our conference room to show them the digital marketing ropes and present them with a few exciting opportunities, including the chance to secure a two-year work placement as part of their course.
The event was a component of Digital Union and Northumbria University’s Your Digital Future (YDF) 2014, a programme that provides second- and final-year students, taking subjects such as media and web design, with employability sessions related to the digital landscape.
Identifying the chance to introduce a group of promising students to the world of digital marketing, build on our work with emerging talent in the north-east, and let enthusiastic students know about the work opportunities available at Mediaworks, we immediately got on board.
After a tour of the office, Craig soon got the students acquainted with the short yet prosperous history of Mediaworks, explaining how we had seen headcount rocket over the past few years. Next on the agenda was explaining what it is we do here at the Big Blue Machine.
Craig said: “I thoroughly enjoyed giving the Your Digital Future talk, as all of the students in attendance seemed really fascinated in what I had to say and posed some incisive questions. As the group was from a range of creative backgrounds, I tried to cover the various aspects of online marketing that may have been of interest to them.”
Discussion then turned to the exciting opportunities Mediaworks has on offer for budding digital marketers.
Two-year work placements up for grabs
Mediaworks has teamed up with Northumbria University to offer three talented students a two-year placement, which will allow them to get hands-on employment experience as part of their course.
Successful candidates will spend four months immersing themselves in the world of SEO, four months shadowing our PPC experts and four months as part of the CRO team, gaining invaluable experience and developing a comprehensive skillset.
The next year will be spent focusing on their desired branch, building in-depth knowledge and specialised skills. Upon completion, students will have a wealth of lessons to draw from in their educational and professional lives.
As explained by Craig and Web Copywriter Hannah Mattinson at a Northumbria University session on January 16th, students also have the opportunity to gain experience at the north-east’s top digital agency* by applying for an apprenticeship or summer placement.
