Mediaworks seeks super-slick crop of apprentices

We are once again getting ready to do our best Lord Sugar impressions – without pointing the finger and shouting: “You’re fired!”, of course! – as we begin the process of recruiting new apprentices here at Mediaworks.

Matthew Bryson, our Technical Support Team Lead, is overseeing the recruitment process and is hoping to find an enthusiastic, hardworking person to join our ever-expanding team.

The lucky apprentice applicants will have the chance to learn from experienced staff across multiple departments and gain valuable knowledge about the SEO and digital marketing industry.

We have been working with apprentices since 2010, training and coaching team members to become specialists in their field, with mentorship and support from our in-house experts. While it is always great to welcome enthusiastic people into the team – with on the job experience or otherwise – we’ve found apprentices bring plenty of new ideas to the table and here at Mediaworks HQ, several apprentices have become some of our brightest SEO stars.


Past apprentices who were told ‘you’re hired’

Head of Technical Support, Matthew, knows all too well the benefits that come with being an apprentice at Mediaworks, as he started as one himself back in 2011.

Matthew’s statistical intuition was quickly identified and put to the test with auditing tasks and tool development, while he built on his IT background with technical training from key members of staff here at Mediaworks, including our experienced Head of Strategy, Daniel Hoggan.

Looking back at his early days on the big blue ship, he recalls: “I found myself working alongside industry professionals, which allowed me to gain a wide knowledge of online marketing and the various delivery roles including SEO and PPC.”

Several years and lots of training, learning and hard work later, Matthew now oversees our Technical Support team, and keeps the office in check with complex spreadsheets. The time he has spent with Mediaworks has also allowed him to unravel code language with ease.

William Cook is another success story to come out of our apprenticeship scheme. Now a Technical Support Executive, Will saw his apprenticeship as a “viable alternative” to university and has forged a solid career path.

Remembering his own early days at Mediaworks, Will said: “I’ve found it a great environment in which to learn about online marketing from a range of perspectives. Observing and working alongside every team within the company has given me a good holistic understanding of the industry, and how our service offerings interact with each other.”

It is not just our Technical Team where apprentices have made an impact; outreach specialist, Callum Morton, saw our apprenticeship scheme as “an invaluable opportunity to learn about something different that you couldn’t be taught at school or college.”

He’s keen to help others who are considering a career path along the apprentice route and thinks more businesses and individuals should consider the benefits of apprenticeships.

He explained: “I would definitely encourage people to join a business like ours as an apprentice if they have the chance; it’s a great way to experience working for a diverse company without the immediate pressure that usually comes with a full-time job. You can learn really quickly and with support you just wouldn’t get at university.”
