After recently making a greater plunge into the world of app development, Mediaworks have created a real buzz around Manchester over the Summer months by teaming up with Wild in Art and animation studio factory to help produce the hugely popular ‘Bee in the City’ app.
The app, which includes an augmented reality Bee, pedometer and integration with outdoor digital screens has had over 20,000 users and more than one million bee discoveries since it’s launch in July.
AR Bee Buzzi joined more than 230 Bee sculptures displayed around the city, and throughout the overall trail, it was Yellowbee who proved to be the most popular of all the pieces of artwork with 13,019 unlocks alone. Overall, there were 101 super- sized bees that were designed to celebrate the city’s unique buzz, while 131 little bees were created by local children and young people from the community.
While remaining a fun and exciting way to explore the culture and heritage of the city of Manchester, the app has also encouraged users to stay fit by tracking their distance, steps and time through a pedometer which is sponsored by Well Pharmacy. Users recorded in excess of 23 million steps while walking around the interactive art trail, which included these beloved bee sculptures.
