Teaching PPC At Northumbria University
As the #1 independent agency in the North East, Mediaworks understands the importance of inspiring the next generation of digital marketers. On the 6th March 2019, Northumbria University invited two of our PPC specialists, Ben Homer and Hugh Porter, to speak to a room full of marketing students about how paid campaigns can benefit a business’ online advertising strategy.
The 20 attendees of the talk were selected from a large number of students after submitting a written document about why digital marketing is important.
The purpose of the talk was to introduce students to PPC and how complex it can be. Our experts covered everything from keyword research and why it’s important for brands to appear for the terms their customers are searching for, to implementing the right ad copy and campaign structure to ensure that people click through and convert.
The event ended with a quiz and a task, which we must say they did really well at! We split the students into four groups and asked them to create their own Google Ads campaign in the Ads interface — giving them a real insight to what planning a campaign can be like for brands like Nike, Next and River Island.
Ben Homer commented: “It was a brilliant day. Opening up the world of paid to future digital marketers and giving them an insight into what we do on a daily basis was really rewarding. Some of the campaigns were really impressive considering this was the first time they’d learnt about keywords and campaign structure. A group of incredibly smart people and hopefully we see a few of them as colleagues in the next few years!”
Many graduates are under the impression that they need to move to London to forge a successful career in marketing, but we’ve got a few empty chairs in our brand new, state-of-the-art office, that we’re looking to fill.
